The number of corona infections in India is increasing rapidly. COVID-19, a team of international scientists, claims that if the same speed is maintained, the number of infected can reach 1 lakh to 13 lakh by mid-May. The existing medical infrastructure and medical equipment in India are insufficient to deal with such a situation. If you look at the data of National Health Profile 2019, there are about 32 thousand government, army and railway hospitals in the country. There are about 4 lakh beds in them. The number of private hospitals is close to 70 thousand. In addition, there are clinics, diagnostic centers, community centers. In all, there are about 1 million beds. In terms of population, there are about 1700 people in India with one bed. Now, the situation of ICU and ventilator is also quite low. According to the Indian Society of Critical Care, there are about 70 thousand ICU beds across the country. While 40 thousand ventilators are present. Only 10 percent of this is empty.
According to experts, India may need an additional 50 thousand ventilators and more than 2 lakh beds in hospitals within the next one month to deal with corona. While about 70 thousand ICU beds may be required. On the other hand, of late, governments have started efforts at different levels. On the one hand, in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered to build one building in all the district hospitals only for the corona victims, while the Odisha government has decided to build a 1000-bed hospital in 15 days. However, these efforts are quite small according to need.
Ventilator crisis worldwide
The ventilator has the most important role in the treatment of corona-infected patients. The ventilator is supported when there is difficulty in breathing. The whole world is currently engaged in arranging ventilators. Many countries in Europe are ordering ventilator makers. The UK government has asked many engineering companies there whether 15 to 20 thousand ventilators can be arranged in two weeks? Germany has ordered 10,000 and Italy has 5 thousand ventilators. Both countries are also doubling the capacity of the ICU. There are only four to five large companies making ventilators worldwide. At this time they also do not have the capacity to make ventilators, because many big countries of the world are ordering large numbers and everyone needs it quickly.
There is a problem of beds in hospitals of other countries
The problem of beds in hospitals is not only in India. In fact, the introduction of Corona is also in China. It has 4.2 beds for every 1 thousand citizens. This is the reason that when the crisis of Corona was more here, a large number of hotels were converted into temporary hospitals. Similarly, France has 6.5 beds for every 1000 citizens, 11.5 in South Korea, 4.2 in China, 3.4 in Italy and 2.8 beds in the US. These figures are taken from the World Health Organization (WHO).
IITs and AIIMS will prepare ventilators in India
When the whole world is worried about ventilators, Indian educational and research institutes have extended their help in such a difficult time. IIT Kanpur has announced to prepare 1 thousand portable ventilators within 1 month. Prof. of the institute Amitabh Bandopadhyay gave this information in a conversation with Dainik Bhaskar. He informed that given the situation of India, at least 50 thousand ventilators may be needed in the next month. So he and his team will work for it day and night. IIT Director Prof. Abhay Karandikar says that another of his team is working on preparing a kit to investigate Corona. Soon it will also produce positive results. AIIMS New Delhi has also joined hands with a private company. Together the two will design a prototype ventilator. AIIMS Director Prof. Randeep Guleria said that a prototype ventilator can be used if needed. The Ministry of Health has also ordered around 1200 more ventilators to deal with emergencies.
300 million people suffer from hypertension in India
Scientists from the Cove-Ind-19 team claim that over 300 million men and women in India suffer from hypertension. Hypertension is a major risk for coronavirus. Scientists claim that the number of cases of infection may exceed the estimated capacity of hospital beds in India. According to the report, 5 to 10 percent of seriously ill patients due to infection will need an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds.
The number of doctors is also very less
If we look at the number of doctors, it is also much less than the need. According to the National Health Profile, 11.5 million allopathic doctors are available across the country by 2018. The World Health Organization says that there should be 1 doctor for every 1000 patients. The number of doctors in India's population of 135 crores is very less and according to WHO rules, it is not at all.
Corona in India is growing like this
- 50 cases occurred in the first 40 days
- Then in 4 days, the figure reached 100
- 150 cases were confirmed in its next 4 days
- In its two days, 200 positive cases came out
- And now about 50 new cases are coming up every day
